It’s time to have your say and vote on your preferred name for two community centres currently under construction.

From today, residents can vote to help formally name the new community centre in Truganina from the following – Truganina Community Centre, Everton Road Community Centre and Pimelea Community Centre.

Residents can also vote for one of three possible names for the new community in Werribee – Shipwright Parade Community Centre, Lollypop Creek Community Centre or Ironbark Community Centre.

Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Susan McIntyre, said this was the second round of community consultation to name these centres.

“In June this year, we asked residents to pick from one of four themes – Traditional Owner recognition, gender equality, linking the name to a place, or commemoration – to guide the name selection for each community centre,” Cr McIntyre said.

“In both instances, the community indicated a preference for names that aligned with the location of each community centre.”

“Now we’re asking residents to vote on their preferred name based on suggestions made by the community during the first round of consultation that are compliant with Geographic Naming Victoria guidelines, as well as an additional name suggested by Council officers for consideration.”

Wyndham City’s Learning City portfolio holder, Councillor Jasmine Hill, added: “It’s been great to see the community get involved in this naming process, and I look forward to seeing what the preferred names for each community centre are.”

“Opening in 2024, these two centres will improve access to high quality early childhood services and host community programs, events and activities for our growing population.”

“The centres will also provide much-needed kindergarten places to Werribee and Truganina families from 2025.”

The $13.7 million community centre in Werribee will be located along Shipwright Parade in Harpley Estate near Lollypop Creek Primary School P-6. The Victorian Government supports the delivery of this centre through a $2.5 million Building Blocks grant and $1.3 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund.

Truganina's $18.4 million community centre will be located on Everton Road, next to a new P-9 school and co-located kindergarten opening in 2024. This project is supported by the Victorian Government through $4 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, $3 million from a Building Blocks grant and $921,000 from the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
