Next Wave

Wyndham City has partnered with Next Wave to support the Kickstart program in 2024/2025.

The Kickstart programs offers artists the vital next step for their practice and career development – extending their creative relationships across a national network and launching a new work of scale on a nationally regarded platform.

Kickstart is a professional development program and mentoring components facilitate strong project management and producing skills. The artists spend Year 1 dreaming and expanding on creative ideas while strengthening their administrative and production skills and sensibilities.

In Year 2, the artists enter creative development and create a thorough and robust proof of concept, shared through a public work-in-progress showing for partners and stakeholders. Next Wave then helps to broker presentation partners locally and nationally, setting the work up for a bright and sustainable journey after the program has finished.

Introducing Rachael Morley, who was recently announced as the Kickstart recipient for 2024/2025.

Rachel Morley is an artist and arts worker based in Wyndham.

Through analogue photography and photo-collage, her practice explores relationships to place and the construction of memory. Drawing on experiences of insecure housing, her recent photographic works reflect on how power and inequality is created both within the rental market and through urban planning in Melbourne’s outer western suburbs.
