What happens if you don’t pay your infringement notice

An infringement doesn’t go away on its own. If you don’t take any action, you could end up with a much larger fine. 

Step 1: Infringement notice issued

When you receive an infringement notice, you will typically have 21 days to take action. 

Once you get your notice, you can: 

If you don’t do anything before the due date, you’ll receive a penalty reminder notice. 

Pay your infringement now

Step 2: Penalty reminder notice issued

Your penalty reminder notice will have a penalty fee and a new due date. 

Once you get your notice, you can: 

If you don’t take action before the new due date on the penalty reminder notice, we may refer your infringement to Fines Victoria

Step 3: Fines Victoria Notice of Final Demand issued

Your Notice of Final Demand from Fines Victoria will have an additional penalty fee and a new due date. You will need to visit the Fines Victoria website to pay your infringement or take action. 

Once an infringement has been referred to Fines Victoria, we cannot accept payment for it.
