Found a Lost Animal

If you have found a lost cat or dog, you are required to hand the animal over to an authorised officer or vet as soon as reasonably possible of finding it.  This is not only a legal requirement, but it will give the animal the best possible chance of being reunited with its owners and minimising stress to the owners and the animal.

Business Hours (8am-5pm) 9742 0777:

  • If you have found the animal during business hours and it is safe to do so, you can take the animal directly to the Wyndham Council Pound located at 241-253 Old Geelong Rd Hoppers Crossing or to a local vet clinic.
  • Alternately, you can call the Wyndham Council on 9742 0777 and a Ranger will come out and collect it from you directly.
  • If a dog is acting aggressively and it is unsafe to contain the dog, contact the Wyndham Council ASAP.
  • If a cat is being aggressive and you are unable to contain it, please contact the Wyndham Council to arrange a cat trap or get advice.

After hours 9742 0777:

  • If you have found a lost pet afterhours, public holidays or weekends, contain the animal if it is safe to do so and contact the Wyndham Council and follow the prompts.
  • If a dog is acting aggressively and it is unsafe to contain the dog, contact the Wyndham Council and follow the prompts.
  • Please note, Rangers will not collect cat’s afterhours.
  • If you have located an injured pet, please call Council ASAP or if possible take to the closest vet clinic.
  • If you have located an injured animal, please call Council ASAP or if possible take to the closest vet clinic. Please Note: Uvet is a 24 hour emergency vet clinic located at 250 Princes Hwy Werribee.
