Off-leash dog areas are the only public spaces where your dog can be off leash.

There are a number of off-leash dog areas throughout the Wyndham City Council area.

Using off-leash dog areas
To ensure everyone can enjoy our off-leash areas safely, you must follow the rules at all times.

To use an off-leash dog area, your dog must:

•    be on a leash while entering and exiting the off-leash dog area
•    have a current registration tag, displayed either on its collar or on the leash (if it is not wearing a collar)
•    remain where you can see it, and where it will hear you and come to you if you call it
•    be recalled or restrained when in the presence of other dogs or people within the off-leash area
•    be recalled or restrained when other dogs or people are entering or exiting the off-leash area
•    not go into any waterways, creeks, streams, rivers or ponds
•    not chase or attack any wildlife.

When you are in an off-leash dog area with your dog, you must always carry a leash, chain or cord that is strong enough to control your dog.  You must always pick up and dispose of your dog's poo.

Dogs that must remain on leash
Some dogs must remain on leash at all times, even in off-leash dog areas.

This includes:

  • dogs that are aggressive to other dogs or people
  • dogs that have not been around other dogs or people
  • dogs that chase moving objects like bicycles or cars
  • dogs that are in season or in heat
  • greyhounds
  • menacing, dangerous or restricted breed.
