Beyond Age: Changing the Conversation about Ageing
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is held globally on 15 June to raise awareness and promote the rights, safety and wellbeing of older people. It’s an opportunity to stand together against abuse, mistreatment and neglect, and support a Wyndham where people of all ages are respected, included and supported to age well.
Share Your Story – Get Involved
We invite older community members to share their stories as part of Wyndham’s recognition of WEAAD 2025—helping to change the conversation about ageing and celebrate the value our older members bring to the community.
Online Submission
Submit a photo of yourself from your late teens to 30s, a current photo, and one piece of advice you’d give to your younger self.

Community Centre Pop-Ups
Visit a participating Wyndham Community Centre with a photo of your younger self. Our Council Officers and Community Connectors will be there to take your current photo and help record your advice to your younger self. (See dates and participating Community Centres below.)
Submitted photos and quotes celebrating our older community members will be proudly displayed at each participating Community Centre from 12 - 26 June. Everyone of all ages is welcome to drop by, learn more, and help foster a community where everyone is valued—at every age.
Understanding Elder Abuse
Elder abuse can be financial, emotional, psychological, physical, sexual or social. It might happen once or many times, and can cause mild to serious harm. Sometimes, more than one type of abuse happens at the same time. Abuse can happen anywhere—at home, in the community or in care services.
If you or someone you know is experiencing elder abuse, support is available. Contact Seniors Rights Victoria or call 1300 368 821.
Tackling Ageism Together
Ageism means treating someone unfairly or making decisions about them because of their age. It can lead to harm and is one of the main causes of elder abuse. Negative views about older people can also affect their health, wellbeing and sense of belonging.
Wyndham City Council is proud to work with Seniors Rights Victoria through the Beyond Age: Changing the Conversation campaign to raise awareness and promote respect for older people. Together, we’re changing the way we talk about ageing and building a community where everyone is valued and supported to age with dignity.
