Councillor Maria King - Iramoo Ward

This is Cr Maria King’s first term as a Councillor.

A resident of Wyndham for almost 40 years, Cr King is passionate about fostering a connected and vibrant community for Wyndham's current and future residents.

She is committed to creating a safer, more accessible, and inclusive environment for everyone. This includes working to reduce congestion on our roads, improving public transport to link our neighbourhoods, and advocating for community resources and infrastructure such as nurseries, libraries, sports clubs, and community centres.

Her primary focus is to create a more connected, accessible, and inclusive community that meets the needs of all residents. This includes prioritising investments in community resources – such as parks, green spaces, community gardens, and recreational facilities.

Cr King also aims to drive economic growth and promote local employment opportunities, supporting initiatives that foster resilience, skill-building, and community engagement.

Iramoo Ward

Bounded by Argoona Road, Greens Road, Greaves Street North and Little River, Iramoo Ward is located within Werribee, Little River and Mambourin. It covers 95.1 square kilometres. As of July 2023, there were 18,120 registered electors.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, Iramoo Ward has a population of 22,470 – of which 9,710 – or 43.3 per cent – were born overseas. The top five countries of foreign birth are India, New Zealand, Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines. A total of 41.9 per cent speak a language other than English.

A total of 40.2 per cent of Iramoo Ward working age residents live and work in Wyndham, while 59.8 per cent are employed outside of Wyndham.

It also has the highest proportion and percentage of First Nations people (452) or two per cent.
