Q Art Project is a youth-led art competition for rainbow identifying youth between 12 to 25 to show case LGBTQIA+ self-expression and empowerment

The art competition is open to young people between 12-25 that have a connection to Wyndham.

Art work submitted can be visual: drawing, painting, photography or written: short story, poetry, comic or musical lyrics or a song.

Each selected entry will receive $100 in prize money and entries close 19 November 2023.

Selected entries will be displayed at an Exhibition launch, Wyndham’s Youth Services and will travel to partnering service providers. Entries will be displayed on Wyndham City’s website and social media.

Steps to submit your work

Submit online 

Artwork requirements and specifications:

Your own original work

  • If a person is identifiable in your submission, you must have their consent
  • Short stories
    • Between 1,500 and 2,000 words
    • In English (can include native language translation within the word limit)
    • Microsoft Word document format (portrait orientation only)

Poems

  • No more than 500 words. 
  • Can be in language other than English, provided that it is accompanied by an English translation

  • Title can include native language translation
    • .File types accepted, PNG,  JPEG, JPG, HEIF OR HEIC  format
    • Minimum resolution: 300 dpi
    • Maximum file size: 10mb

    • Maximum file size: 10mb
  • Illustrator images
    • Minimum resolution: 600dpi
    • Maximum file size: 10mb

Music

  • maximum 3.5 minute song
  • include lyrics

  • no coarse language youth audience
  • File size MP3 no more than 10 MB

Selection criteria

  1. Whether the eligibility criteria has been met (aged between 12-25, connection to Wyndham).
  2. Quality standard for publication purpose.
  3. Medium used - having a balance of art forms represented that connects community and highlights our rich and colourful diversity.
  4. Presentation of submission - artwork's theme and explanation being well communicated, inclusive and queer in cultures and faiths.
  5. Availability of exhibition space to display the artwork

The selection process is curated by Council officers and Headspace Werribee
