Iramoo Ward Councillor, Mia Shaw, was elected to Council in 2016.
A working parent with a five-year-old son, Gus, Cr Shaw’s family has been a part of the Wyndham Community for over 100 years. Her Great Grandfather, William Shaw, was the Shire Presidents on three occasions between 1917 and 1946. Shaws Rd and the Shaws Rd Bridge were named in honour of his commitment to the local community.
Cr Shaw has a Graduate Diploma (Public Relations) from RMIT and a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) from Deakin University. Cr Shaw also recently completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ course, which provides a comprehensive grounding in the roles and duties of board directors.
Cr Shaw is Wyndham City’s Family Friendly City Portfolio Holder, which develops strategies to improve liveability for all people of all generations. This Portfolio has a particular focus on how our programs and services foster a culture of active participation and volunteering to support the health and wellbeing needs of children and families in our community. An exploration of the design of our city is also instrumental to achieving a family friendly city. This means working towards a built environment which is welcoming, accessible and safe for everyone and which contributes towards the creation of a shared sense of community.
