What is an Abandoned Vehicle?
We consider a vehicle to be abandoned if it:
- Is unregistered. You can check if a vehicle is registered on the VicRoads website. This will show if the vehicle is unregistered or stolen.
- Is registered but has not moved in more than 2 months.
- If deemed not roadworthy by Victoria Police or VicRoads.
Reports we cannot investigate
Please contact the appropriate authority if the vehicle is:
- On roads managed by VicRoads. Please report it to VicRoads.
- On private property, including shopping centre car parks. Please report it to the property owner.
- Dumped in water. Please report it to the Department of Environment, Water and Planning.
- Seems stolen. Please report it to Victoria Police.
Ready to Report? Here's what we need to find out:
- Registration Number: If you know it.
- Location: Street and number, if possible.
- Vehicle Type: Sedan, SUV, Ute, etc.
- Description: Colour, make, and model.
- Photos: These help us identify the vehicle faster!
Report Unregistered or Abandoned Vehicle
What happens next?
- We’ll investigate within 10 business days.
- If a vehicle is unregistered or abandoned, we’ll place a sticker on it with advice for the owner to move the vehicle within a set time.
- Vehicle not moved? It might get towed.
