Mark your calendars: IDAHOBIT is nearly here, and Wyndham City is proud to reaffirm its commitment to support the LGBTQIA+ community.

Council will mark IDAHOBIT, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, with a special event featuring AFL great and transgender advocate Danielle Laidley as the keynote speaker.

This free event will be held at the Wyndham Civic Centre on 16 May from 10am and will also include a flag raising ceremony and light refreshments.

Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Jennie Barrera, said Wyndham City's International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination event purposely reflects this year’s IDAHOBIT theme, No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all

“IDAHOBIT celebrates LGBTQIA+ people globally, and is also a day to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights and the work still needed to be done to combat discrimination,” Cr Barrera said.

“Unfortunately, the LGBTQIA+ community continues to experience discrimination based on their sexuality, gender identity or intersex status – and it is important we create a culture where everyone feels safe and welcome.”

“I encourage all Wyndham residents to attend our IDAHOBIT event to learn, listen and stand in support of the LGBTQIA+ community to ensure a more inclusive Wyndham for all people.”

Registrations for this event are essential. For more information and to register, go to https://www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/idahobitday
