Wyndham City reminds pet owners to renew their animal’s registration by 10 April, giving them the best chance to reunite with their cat or dog if they get lost.

In Victoria, all dogs and cats are required to be registered by law at three months old and have their registration renewed with Council annually.

Pet registration fees cover everything pets need in Wyndham City. This includes the installation and maintenance of dog parks, the municipal pound, animal management staff who respond to call outs, including after hours, investigations and of course, reuniting residents with their pets.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre said there was often confusion that when a pet was microchipped that owners sometimes assumed that their animal was also registered.

“These are two separate processes, both are essential in our City and help with reuniting pets with their owners,” she said.

“Registration keeps pet owners’ contact details up-to-date, tells us how many cats and dogs we have and enables us to support the delivery of programs and dog-friendly spaces that give owners opportunities to socialise their pets.”

“Registering your pet with Council is as simple as filling out an application online or a form at one of our Council-run centres and paying the annual fee.”

“If it is your first time registering your pet, Wyndham offers free registration for the period up to the following April.”

“It’s been good to see many pet owners paying registrations before the deadline, particularly when failure to register or renew a pet’s registration may result in a $370 fine.”

Dog registration costs range from $26 to $175 a year and a desexed cat is between $15 and $42. (Cats must be desexed).

All 2023 pet registration renewals must be completed by 10 April 2023.

You can register online or download registration forms from www.wyndham.vic.gov.au or visit Council offices for a copy of the form.
