Wyndham City continues to support young drivers to help build their experience on the road and achieve their probationary licence, through programs such as the WynBay TAC L2P Learner Driver Program.

The WynBay L2P Program is delivered by Laverton Community Integrated Services and aims to match fully licenced Volunteer Mentors with learner drivers aged 16 to 20 years old.

Learner drivers who participate in the program are those who experience barriers in obtaining the mandatory 120 hours of driving practice required to gain their probationary driver’s licence.

Wyndham City’s Community Safety Portfolio holder, Cr Susan McIntyre, said supporting learner driver programs aligned with Council’s ‘Road Safety Strategy and Action Plan 2022 – 2032’ objectives.

“One of the ways we support safer roads is to promote and offer support to the Learner Driver programs operating in our city, and Mentor drivers have an invaluable role in helping to make our communities safer,” she said.

“By helping young people get their licence, mentors have the opportunity to open doors for young people to access education and employment as well as gaining their independence and reaching significant milestones.”

“We are continually looking for dedicated and passionate mentors who can support the program in Wyndham City and Hobsons Bay.”

Mentors should be:

  • Over 21 and have their full driver’s licence
  • Be available 1-2 hours a week for driving practise
  •  A car is provided, insured and provided with fuel.
