The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has been running Book Week since 1945! It’s a celebration of books and Australian children's authors and illustrators.
The 2025 CBCA Book Week takes place from 18-23 August and the theme is Book an Adventure!
- Join in our fantastic book-themed activities at every library branch including a scavenger hunt, zine making, dress-up opportunities, craft and more.
- Plus explore a range of Kids Club Online Book Week activities, Story Box Library activities and discover the 2025 CBCA Book of the Year Awards.

CBCA Book Awards & Lists
2025 CBCA Book Lists and Awards
Every year the CBCA hosts the Book of the Year Awards for Australian children's books published over the past year. The judges select books for the notable list, shortlist and winners, across six categories:
- Older Readers
- Younger Readers
- Early Childhood
- Picture Book of the Year
- Eve Pownall Award
- CBCA Award for New Illustrator

Enjoy watching some of the 2025 CBCA Picture Books read aloud on Story Box Library. You can also discover selected CBCA books from previous years.
Story Box Library is offering special activities relating to the 2025 CBCA Picture Books.
You can solve a mystery, get crafty, play games, be a book judge or go exploring in nature.
Each activity provides instructions and a QR code to access the relevant resources that you will need to complete the activity.
