About the Workshop

This interactive workshop is designed to deepen understanding of the historical and ongoing challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Participants will gain insights into past policies and practices and their enduring impacts on Indigenous cultures, communities, and traditions. The session will also address and dispel common myths about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, fostering a more informed, respectful, and culturally sensitive approach to communication and interaction.

Meet the Facilitators

Jillian West brings over 20 years of experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through employment, education, and community development. A respected cultural educator, Jillian continues the legacy of her father, the late Japanangka Errol West, a renowned Aboriginal academic and "education warrior."

Alexandra Prouse works alongside her Aunty Jillian, carrying forward her family’s commitment to cultural learning and sharing. Together, they create an engaging, warm, and insightful learning environment.
