Café Philosophique: The Past

Café Philosophique runs the 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Bridge Hotel in Werribee, exploring the hidden forces that shape our lives through music, poetry and conversation.

On Wednesday September 10th we will exploring THE PAST.

How does memory inform who we are today? How does nostalgia feed into our sense of belonging? Can we ever escape our past, if not, how can we learn to accept it?

The evening will begin with a music performance from Ethiopian singer Nhatty Man. Nhatty will be performing a popular style of Ethiopian music called Tizita, which literally translates to nostalgia. The melody is characterised by a specific pentatonic scale that incites a sense of longing, while the lyrics refer to memories of childhoods and lost loves.

We will then hear from our feature poet Amanda Anastasi, who will lead us into our own creative and reflective writing.

After some sharing, we will end with some delicious deserts and deep conversations through our "philosophy café".
