In December 8, 2000, the Corazon Centre was established as a ministry of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Our name, Corazon, is a Spanish word meaning “Heart”, which reflects our core values of kindness and compassion. Initially, the Centre was established to provide short-term respite services to women and their dependent children who were in need. Home ‘detox’ services were also provided to women who were unable to undergo formal detox programs because of their caregiving responsibilities.

In 2006, the service was expanded to include the provision of psychology and counselling services. This was in response to the lack of affordable mental health services for people living in the City of Wyndham and Hobsons Bay. As demand for this service grew the respite component declined. Today, the psychology and counselling service remains the focus of the organisation.

Corazon is a ministry of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. We are inspired by the spirit of the founder, Jules Chevalier

Our Vision

To live and witness to the infinite tenderness of God and provide the opportunity where people can grow towards healing and fullness of life.

Our Mission

To continue the healing, freeing and life-giving mission of Jesus which was to heal the broken-hearted, release captives and give sight to the blind and freedom to the oppressed.

At Corazon we commit to the following values which we seek to embed in the culture of our organization and practice:

Hope
The place within, which makes meaning and sense of experiences and relationships

Respect
An attitude treasuring the unique dignity of every person and recognising the sacredness of creation

Hospitality
A welcoming openness which provides warmth, invitation and spaces for healing

Justice
The right of all people to be treated fairly

Excellence
Through the delivery of best practice within available resources
