NYPD cop, John McClane, travels to Los Angeles on Christmas Eve to visit his estranged wife, Holly, at a company party in the Nakatomi Plaza skyscraper. When a group of German terrorists led by Hans Gruber takes over the building and holds everyone hostage, McClane becomes the only person free and must fight his way through the building to save his wife and the other hostages.
