Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Security Patrols Trial?
A six-month Council initiative providing after-hours security patrols in Truganina to deter anti-social behaviour and support a greater sense of safety.
When does it operate?
Every night 10pm–6am from 10 November 2025 to April 2026.
Why is Council running this?
To test whether a visible, prevention-led presence helps deter after-hours issues and improves community confidence, and to gather evidence for future decisions.
Who is delivering the service?
A licensed security contractor, MA Services already engaged by Wyndham City. Officers are licensed, trained and uniformed, with bodycams, dashcams and GPS. Officers are not armed.
Do officers have police powers?
No. They cannot arrest people or issue fines. They deter, observe and report to Victoria Police when required.
Will patrols come onto private property?
Patrols focus on public places. Entry to private property would only occur with the owner/occupier’s permission and in line with contractor protocols.
What should I do if I see suspicious activity?
Report it to Victoria Police. Call 000 in an emergency, or 131 444 if police are not required immediately.
Will this replace Victoria Police?
No. This trial complements police – it doesn’t replace them.
Why only Truganina?
The trial area was advocated by the local ward councillor and endorsed by Council on 23 June 2025, allowing Council to test the approach in a defined area.
Will it expand to other suburbs?
No decision has been made. Council will consider next steps once the evaluation is complete.
How will my privacy be protected?
Any footage captured is handled under strict privacy and security requirements and used only for incident reporting or investigations.
How is the trial funded?
The $372,000 cost is provided for in Council’s Annual Plan and Budget 2025–26.
What happens after the trial?
Council will review the evaluation report and determine any future action.
