Wyndham City is proud to announce the winners of the Battle of the Books 2025, a program designed to inspire a love of reading and lifelong learning among local students.

Now in its fourth year, the initiative – run by Wyndham City Libraries – encourages students in Years 3 to 6 to visit their local library, explore new books, and log their reading achievements through the Beanstack online platform.

This year, over 500 students from four local schools participated. Together, they recorded an incredible 1,899 reading and library activities and logged more than 460,000 minutes of reading – a truly outstanding achievement.

St Mary of the Cross, Point Cook students completed 708 activities and 176,298 total minutes of reading logged (averaging 1,024 minutes per student).

They were awarded the champion school with a celebration ceremony held on the 21 November 2025 with students presented with the Battle of the Books trophy and a curated collection of new release titles for their library.

Wyndham City librarians also presented awards and attended assemblies at Christway College, Tarneit P–9 College, and Al-Taqwa College, each occasion highlighting the positive impact of the program in encouraging reading and strengthening connections between schools and libraries.

Survey data indicates that 80% of Battle of the Books participants reported increased reading at home, with many citing the competition as a motivating factor.

Battle of the Books encourages primary school aged children to read and inspire young readers, demonstrating Wyndham City’s commitment to innovative programs that to promote literacy, learning, and community engagement across the municipality.

Wyndham City Libraries invites all schools to join the challenge. In the meantime, families are encouraged to visit one of Wyndham’s libraries during the school holidays and keep the reading momentum going.
