Wyndham City adopted the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026 – 2029 on 25 November 2025. The plan was developed based on the outcomes and learnings from the previous plan and a review of existing data in areas such as complaints, dog attacks, registrations and impoundments.

Community feedback including over 1,028 submissions and consultation with key stakeholders also informed the plan.

Key actions and themes within the plan include:

  • Extend the current cat curfew to a 24-hour containment order to help protect cats from injuries, fights and disease, whilst safeguarding local wildlife. Support cat owners with a phased 12-month roll out, including education to help them prepare their properties.
  • Provide education in the first instance to dog owners letting their dogs off leash outside designated off leash areas and on their responsibility to carry poo bags and clean up after their dog. Continue adhoc patrols to identify and provide education/information, and enforcement for repeat offenders walking their dogs off leash outside off leash areas.
  • Increase education and information for residents on responsible pet ownership.
  • Increase understanding of the value and benefits of pet registration.
