Reconciliation in Wyndham

Wyndham has one of the largest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the West of Melbourne, with a rich and diverse history. Reconciliation is an important journey that seeks to strengthen relationships between First Nations peoples and the wider community through respect, understanding and meaningful action and honours the knowledge, resilience and leadership of First Nations peoples.

Our journey towards Reconciliation requires a willingness to listen, acknowledge, lead positive change and demonstrate strong leadership. As an organisation, Wyndham City is committed to celebrating the histories, cultures and positive achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our vision for Reconciliation is a Wyndham where we embrace our diverse community, where local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people thrive and where we are a more respectful, inclusive and connected community.

Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2023-2025

Wyndham City’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2023-25 was developed in consultation with the Wyndham Reconciliation Advisory Committee (WRAC). The plan aimed to strengthen and continue Council’s role in facilitating a whole of community approach to Reconciliation and build on learnings and experiences from the 2017-2019 Reconciliation Action Plan.

The WRAC, predominantly made up of First Nations representatives, continued to guide the implementation of the RAP deliverables throughout the duration of the Plan, and provided a platform for engagement between First Nations community and Council across a broad range of issues.
