Desexing your cat or dog

Desexing your pet can help them live a longer, healthier life. It can provide: 

  • benefits to their health
  • positive behavioural changes
  • reduced risk of unwanted litters.

You will get a discount on your pet’s registration fee if your pet is desexed. Desexing can be done by your local vet.

Desexing your cat

Your cat must be desexed in order to be registered in Wyndham City. 

Exceptions

Your cat can only be registered without being desexed if: 

  • it is more than 10 years old, OR 
  • you are a registered domestic animal business, OR 
  • you have a signed letter from your vet saying desexing would be harmful to your cat’s health, OR 
  • it is registered with Australian National Cats Inc, Feline Control Council (Vic) or Governing Council of the Cat Fancy Australia and Victoria. 

Desexing your dog

Your dog does not need to be desexed in order to be registered in Wyndham City. 

However, if your dog is desexed, you will get a discount on your pet registration. 

Exceptions

If your dog is not desexed, you will still receive a discount on your registration if: 

  • your dog is a working dog, OR 
  • your dog is more than 10 years old, OR 
  • you are a registered domestic animal business, OR 
  • you have a signed letter from your vet saying desexing would be harmful to your dog’s health. 

You will also get the discount if your dog is a member of: 

  • Australia Association of Professional Dog Trainers Inc 
  • The Gentle Dog Trainers Association Inc 
  • Dogs Victoria 
  • Four Paws K9 Training 
  • Master Dog Breeders and Associates (MDBA). 

Desexing Incentive Program

If your pet is registered and microchipped with Wyndham City Council, you may be eligible for a $50 voucher toward getting your pet desexed. 

These vouchers can be redeemed at participating veterinary clinics. 

How to get a voucher

You will need to bring your pet’s microchip details and proof of registration to: 

Vouchers are valid for one month from the date of issue. There is a limit of two vouchers per household.
