You will need to register with Wyndham City Council if you have an accommodation business. This could include:
- a rooming house
- a hotel
- a motel
- a hostel
- a bed and breakfast
- a student dormitory
- a holiday camp
- labour hire accommodation.
To launch your prescribed accommodation business, you will need to:
- check if you need a planning or building permit
- prepare a floor plan of your premises
- get all the documents you need and apply
- get any other permits you may need.

You may need to get a planning permit or a building permit before you can register your prescribed accommodation business.

Building permits
If you are planning to do any building works to your premises, you will need to get a building permit.

Prepare a floor plan of your premises
When you submit your registration form, you will need to supply us with a floor plan of your premises. This might have different requirements to any plans you have to provide for your planning or building permit.
Your plan should be drawn to scale with dimensions and include:
- floor plans of each room including dimensions
- the proposed number of occupants of each room.
Get all the documents you need and apply
To register a prescribed accommodation business, you will need to give us:
- a floor plan
- information about the number of rooms and how many guests you can accommodate
- ASIC company extract
- a rooming house operator licence from Consumer Affairs Victoria (if you are operating a rooming house).
Register your prescribed accommodation business
Once you have applied for registration, one of our officers will review your application. We will provide a response to your application and let you know if you need to make any changes to your plans.
We strongly suggest you do not begin construction until your application has been approved.
Prepare for an inspection
Once you have set up your premises and are ready to start operating, you will need to arrange for one of our environmental health officers to inspect your premises.
If your premises is suitable at inspection, you will be issued a certificate of registration.
Other permits or licences you may need to get
Depending on your business, you may also need to apply for:
- a food business permit
- a health or beauty business permit
- a liquor licence
- a rooming house operator licence from Consumer Affairs Victoria.
