The reserves earmarked for prescribed burns consist of nationally threatened Victorian Volcanic Plains vegetation and the use of burning is a necessary component in the management of these native grasslands.

The benefits include:

  • Promoting healthy, fresh growth that many grassland species are accustomed too.

  • Creating temporary spaces of bare ground, allowing new plants to germinate.

  • Removing the build-up of dry/cured biomass that restricts healthy plant growth.

These burns will be conducted by Wyndham City Council’s Conservation Team.

It is anticipated that these burns will take place sometime before the commencement of the Fire Danger Period in late 2026 (suitable weather and on-ground conditions permitting)In addition, these Prescribed Burns may be prevented from proceeding due to several other factors resulting in the postponement of the burn until the following year.

If residents experience smoke in or around their home, they should shut their windows and turn off their air conditioners. Council apologises for any inconvenience experienced during the burns.

Prior to the burn residents in nearby properties will be notified of the burn commencing.
