Station Place First Nations Art Commission

Station Place is a cul-de-sac in central Werribee, situated on Bunurong Country and close to Wirribi Yaluk (Werribee River), which borders Wadawurrung Country to the south and west. The eastern entrance to Werribee Train Station — a series of glass panels moving hundreds of pedestrians daily through the subterranean space — has become the site for Wyndham City's Station Place First Nations Art Commission.

Since 2023, Wyndham Arts and Culture has commissioned First Nations artists to activate this space, reflective of Wyndham's Public Art Plan which foregrounds First Nations artistic and cultural expression. Each commissioned artist brings a unique cultural lens to a site that functions as a threshold — a point of arrival and departure on Wadawurrung and Bunurong Country.

Station Place First Nations Art Commission began in partnership with Photo 2024 and the Midsumma Festival, presenting work by Ngaya Ngarigu artist Peter Waples-Crowe, and has continued yearly. Each commissioned artwork also forms part of the annual First Nations Art Tours program that occur in Reconciliation week in late May.
