Think Before You Park

Wyndham City is undertaking an education and enforcement campaign to remind drivers to think before they park in an accessible parking bay without a permit, as taking the spot puts the independence of a permit holder at risk.

Misusing an accessible parking bay is an offence that comes with a $204 fine.

Remember:

  • Accessible parking spots are not VIP parking
  • Accessible parking spots are designated for someone with a disability to enter and exit their car safely.
  • The availability of disabled parking spots are essential for people with a permit to access their destination. These outings are often carefully planned to manage fatigue and discomfort.

The ‘Think before you park’ campaign will run from November 2025 to February 2026.

It will involve a monthly reporting of how the campaign is progressing. This includes for the duration of the campaign reporting on the:

  • Number of warnings
  • Number of infringements
  • Hot spot locations
  • Online Communications campaign reach

Our Parking Officers already monitor Council owned car parks and car parks that are privately owned, where there are formal agreements in place. We’re open to establishing further agreements where appropriate to help strengthen the protection of accessible parking bays for people with valid permits, where reasonable and practicable.
