2025-26 Annual Community Satisfaction Survey Results

Wyndham City Council has maintained near-record levels of community satisfaction, with an independent survey placing the municipality among the top performing councils in metropolitan Melbourne.

The 2025-26 Annual Community Satisfaction Survey, conducted by Metropolis Research, found overall satisfaction with Council held steady at 7.2 out of 10 (down slightly from last year’s 7.3); the equal second highest result in the survey's 13-year history and above the long-term average of 6.8.

The result is identical to the 2026 metropolitan and growth area councils' average, though notably 0.4 points below the western region councils' result of 7.6.

Across Council's 46 individual services and facilities, average satisfaction reached a record high of 7.9 out of 10, with 39 of 44 tracked services recording their best-ever score. Stand-out improvements were recorded in Maternal and Child Health services and immunisation services, both up 0.6 points, followed by Council's website, protection of built and cultural heritage, and the school crossing service, each up 0.5 points.

Safety and crime emerged as an equal top community concern for the first time in the survey's 13-year history, with 21 per cent of residents nominating it as a priority issue up sharply from just 8 per cent last year. Traffic management registered the same figure, consistent with previous years.

The spike in concerns about safety was not unique to Wyndham. Metropolis Research observed the same trend across many metropolitan Melbourne municipalities through 2025 and into 2026, with community anxiety centred primarily on home break-ins and fear of crime rather than the anti-social behaviour or drug-related issues more prominent in other areas.

The survey was conducted door-to-door with 1,200 Wyndham residents between October 2025 and January 2026 during a range of days and times, providing a statistically representative sample of the municipality's population.

Results are a key measure under the Council Plan 2025-29 and will be reported in the 2025-26 Annual Report.
