Join us as we open REMNANTS: What Remains and What Flows, a group exhibition exploring how memory and care survive the aftermath of colonial violence. Featuring works by Idil Abdullahi, Anu Kumar, Latai Taumoepeau, Tace Stevens, Hussein Abdirahman Mohamud and The Unbound Collective.
The opening event will feature a spoken word performance by Zaynab Farah, a Somali, Naarm-based Spoken Word artist. Driven to support and give back to her community, Zaynab's pieces explore intricate personal experiences and topics that she is passionate about. Zaynab was the 2019 Australian Poetry Slam Victorian Champion and the runner-up for the 2019 Slamalamadingdong Grand Slam.
Tunes will be provided by Dj Blu Canary, who describes herself as a ghost, an apparition inspired by anime mythos, existing somewhere between presence and performance. Nothing is recorded; nothing is revealed; what you encounter is entirely in the moment. Moving fluidly across genres and geographies, she weaves sound like an intricate tapestry, nostalgia brushing against the underground, the familiar dissolving into surprise.

About the exhibition:
Curated by wani toaishara, REMNANTS brings together seven leading artists to explore how memory and care survive the aftermath of colonial violence through film, photography, performance, and installation. The exhibition engages soil, water, and the body as living archives, bridging grief, resilience, and the possibility for alternative futures. Visitors are invited to witness and participate, shaping new connections and imagining justice beyond traditional narratives.
REMNANTS runs from Saturday 18 July – Sunday 18 October 2026.
Gallery opening hours: Monday – Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday-Sunday 10am-3pm
