Wyndham City is celebrating another year of progress through its Connecting Wyndham program, with three major road upgrades completed, active transport connections expanded and the program receiving recognition on the national stage.  

Over the past 12 months, Council has invested heavily in a series of strategic road projects to support our rapidly growing suburbs, connecting people to jobs, schools, parks and services more safely and efficiently than ever before.

Highlights include:

• Completing a $10.5 million upgrade at the Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection, delivering double the lanes, new traffic lights and enhanced cycling connections
• Completing the $10.1 million K Road reconstruction, which rebuilt K Road between Duncans Road and K Road Cliffs with sealed shoulders and delivered an improved intersection at Main Drive to boost access to and from major tourist attractions
• Completing stage one of the Widen Little River Roads upgrade project, which included the complete rebuild of Old Melbourne Road (between Little River and Little River Road) and Rothwell Road (between Old Melbourne Road and McLeans Road) with sealed lanes and shoulders, and drainage works
• Rebuilding eight roads and resurfacing another 21 as part of Wyndham City’s annual Road Reconstruction and Road Asphalt Resurfacing Programs
• Constructing 32 new and upgraded shared paths and footpaths spanning 9.6 kilometres through our Active Transport program
• Winning the Institute of Transportation Engineers Sustainable Transport Award for Wyndham City’s Active Travel to Schools and Missing Links programs
• Connecting Wyndham shortlisted in both the National Growth Areas Alliance Annual Awards and PWC Victoria 2026 Engineering Excellence Awards

We're also approaching the finish line on the Ison Road project, with the new road to open in September. 

Meanwhile, significant progress has been made on the next wave of major road projects, with construction on both the Leakes Road duplication (Tarneit Road to Derrimut Road) and the Tarneit Road and Shaws Road intersection upgrade expected to commence in late 2026.

Planning is also progressing on the Dohertys Road duplication (Tarneit Road to Sapling Boulevard), with $2.4 million in Council’s 2026/27 Budget allocated for planning and design and construction expected to commence in the second half of 2027.

Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Mia Shaw, said Connecting Wyndham was delivering practical improvements to help the community get where they need to go more safely, efficiently and sustainably. 

“Connecting Wyndham isn't just about building roads; it's about creating safer roads, improving traffic flow and providing more opportunities for people to walk and ride throughout our City," Cr Shaw said. 

“And it’s not just the major works that are having a big impact – projects like the Warringa Crescent road reconstruction in Hoppers Crossing have delivered safer, more reliable journeys for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.”
