Local artists take centre stage for Make Music Day

Wyndham City is thrilled to present a weekend of live music and community events across Wyndham on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June as local musicians take centre stage for international Make Music Day.

From pub rock to brass bands, drumming workshops to piano recitals, there’ll be live music to enjoy across the weekend, as local bands and performers transform a range of different venues into welcoming spaces for people to connect and participate.

The weekend will showcase the ten recipients of Wyndham City’s 2026 Make Music Grants, highlighting the breadth of musical talent across Wyndham and providing artists with opportunities to share their work with local audiences.

Werribee City Centre will come alive with a special activation in the forecourt of Wyndham Cultural Centre on Saturday 20 June, between 11am and 3.45pm.

The line-up will feature pop and rock favourites from Gerry's Well-Oiled Machine, Bangla folk music by Kazi Sharif, Afrobeats and reggae from Michael Mirindi, and a hands-on drumming workshop led by Beatfactor's Rod Pilois.

The program reflects and celebrates the rich diversity that defines Wyndham including performances, workshops, and community events:

  • Ayanthi Anandagoda Piano School, presenting a piano recital and workshop at Dianella Community Centre
  • Werribee Concert Band, hosting the Western Bands Festival at Wyndham Civic Centre
  • Fred Nii Addo (One Spirit Africa), delivering an interactive African drumming workshop at Point Cook Community Learning Centre,
  • The Stolen Stop Signs, a fresh local band bringing classic pub rock energy to the Park Hotel Werribee,
  • Divija Akella, showcasing the beauty of Indian classical music through veena and violin at Truganina Community Centre
  • Vivek Agarwal and his 8-year-old son Vivaan, leading an inclusive drumming workshop for children aged 5–12 at Dianella Community Centre, with free drumsticks provided to all participants.

This Wyndham City Grants initiative supports local artists to develop skills, gain performance experience and build professional networks, while providing residents with access to high-quality cultural experiences close to home.

Workshops and performances are designed to be inclusive and accessible, encouraging participation from people of all backgrounds, including children, families, and culturally diverse communities.

It’s a great opportunity to enjoy something new, support local talent and share in the joy of music.
