Wyndham City’s Youth Services runs a free Social Barber for 13- to 22-year-olds every Wednesday, during the school term from 4pm to 6pm at Arndell Park Community Centre 29 - 49 Federation Blvd, Truganina.
Young people are encouraged to come along and get a free haircut from professional barbers, hang out, game on the big screen playing soccer and have a chat with youth workers.
Designed to support young people who may be facing barriers to employment and education, financial hardship or social isolation, the Free Social Barber initiative creates a welcoming, inclusive space for participants helping boost confidence, dignity and social connection.
It helps young people feel more confident walking into a job interview, returning to school, or engaging with their community. Building self-esteem, confidence and positive engagement.
The haircut is free for young people aged 13-22 years. Bookings aren't necessary and haircuts are on a first come, first served basis. If time runs out, appointments will be carried over to the following Wednesday.
Beyond the haircut, the service provides a safe space for conversation and connection. The Barbers and Youth Services workers use the opportunity to build trust, offer support, and connect young people with additional services where needed.
The Youth Services team provides pizza and refreshments and also provides transport for the young people via a Wyndham City bus to local trains stations.
