Wyndham Art Gallery becomes an immersive playground for children and families with two magical experiences by Polyglot Theatre: Paper Planet and Sound of Drawing.
The internationally acclaimed Melbourne-based company transforms both of our gallery spaces with their signature creativity, presenting a vibrant visual arts experience designed especially for young audiences.
Paper Planet is a universally accessible experience that families find inspiring and utterly captivating.
Children and families are invited into a forest of tall cardboard trees, and after exploring the space, they add to this strange and delicate planet using only paper, tape, and their imaginations. Theatre and play merge in this magical place, as creatures, plants, costumes, characters, stories, and adventures spring to life.
Paper Planet grows as more families visit, and every session is truly unique as imaginations go wild. Children choose how they interact with the performers and the space; some find themselves absorbed in quiet making, others prefer to play and explore.
Paper Planet is child-led, deeply involving, and highly sensory, and sure to delight the whole family.
Sound of Drawing brings together textures and technology in a soundscape of kids’ own making.
On a long, broad drawing table, children wear headphones and hear their scratches, swirls, tapping, and scribbles as they create their own artistic masterpieces and make their collective mark. The sounds of the pastel on the paper is picked up by sensitive microphones and amplified, turning the physical action of drawing into a live soundscape.
Sound of Drawing connects sound, gesture, and artistic intention, drawing masterpieces from every participant.
Together, these playful installations invite children to create, collaborate, and explore through art, sound, and storytelling.
These experiences are free and suitable for children aged 12 and under.
Sessions will run daily at the following times:
