Award-winning, Melbourne writer Maxine Beneba Clarke is best known for her short fiction collection Foreign Soil, which has been included as part of the VCE English syllabus.

Her collection of work includes fiction, non-fiction, plays and poetry that explores humanity in all its complexities, including contemporary issues of racism, recycling, schoolyard bullying, family relationships, migration and displacement.

Her books are available through Wyndham libraries, including: Foreign Soil, Growing Up African in Australia, Stuff I’m (Not) Sorry For and more.

She has also guest taught short fiction, profile writing and arts journalism at a number of Australian universities, and also offers talks and workshops on portrait writing.
