Wyndham City is calling for community feedback to update the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026-2030, to help respond to the needs of pet owners and non-pet owners.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said the four-year plan needed to be updated in line with the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
“When we held our last consultation, we received 891 submissions. This strong participation in consultation shows the importance of pet management in our community,” she said.
“In response to feedback from our last consultation we increased Ranger patrols to reduce dogs wandering off lead; increased education about where it was appropriate and not appropriate to let a dog off-lead and promoted responsible pet ownership, among other actions.”
“We look forward to hearing from pet owners and non-pet owners to help shape the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2026-2030.”
“For many of us, pets are part of the family and we want to keep them safe and happy while also managing community expectations and concerns.”
The plan will also be shaped by outcomes and learnings from previous plans, a review of data relating to dog attacks, registrations and impoundments.
