Wyndham City has formalised a new international partnership, signing a Friendship City Agreement with the municipality of Godawari, Nepal, at a ceremony held today at the Wyndham Civic Centre.
The delegation from Godawari, led by Chief Executive Officer Man Bahadur Khadka is visiting Wyndham to meet with the Mayor, Councillors, the CEO, senior Council staff, and key community organisations across the municipality.
The signing marks the beginning of a structured partnership between the two municipalities, creating a foundation for ongoing collaboration in community development, education, agriculture, business, and cultural exchange.
Godawari is a municipality in the Lalitpur District of Nepal, located to the south of Kathmandu. The visit to Wyndham follows longstanding community connections between Nepal and the Wyndham region, which is home to a vibrant and growing Nepali community.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Preet Singh said the agreement was a proud moment for Wyndham City.
“This agreement reflects the genuine connection between our two cities, and we look forward to building a strong and lasting friendship.”
“Wyndham is one of Australia’s fastest growing and most culturally diverse cities, and our international relationships reflect that. We are home to the fourth-largest Nepalese community in Victoria. Through this partnership, we aim to create real opportunities - for our residents, our businesses, our schools, and our community organisations.”
During the week-long visit, the Godawari delegation will participate in a wide-ranging program across Wyndham and greater Melbourne, including:
- Site visits to the Wyndham Community and Education Centre and SPARK Business and Innovation Hub;
- A visit to Fresh Select, an agricultural business in Werribee South, and the Australian College of Agriculture and Horticulture at Werribee Demonstration Farm;
- A tour of Wyndham Tech School and a networking event at the Wynnovation Business Expo;
- A tourism day at the Werribee Precinct, including Werribee Open Range Zoo and Werribee Mansion; and
- A visit to the University of Melbourne Carlton Campus.
Wyndham City Deputy Mayor Jasmine Hill said Wyndham’s strength comes from its diversity, and this agreement is another example of how our multicultural communities help shape our city in meaningful ways.
“It’s wonderful to see the strong connections between Wyndham and the Nepali community reflected through this new partnership with Godawari.”
“This Friendship City Agreement is about more than a formal signing, it’s about creating opportunities for cultural exchange, learning, education and community connection that benefit both municipalities.”
The Godawari delegation’s visit to Wyndham follows Wyndham’s existing Friendly City relationship with Changzhou, China. The new agreement with Godawari expands Wyndham’s network of international partnerships, reflecting the city’s growing global connections.
