Werribee South Beach upgrade is underway

Work has begun on the first stage of the Werribee South Beach Masterplan, which will deliver a raft of improvements to Werribee South Beach.

This $4.6 million project will upgrade the Wyndham Bay Trail shared use path, a scenic five-kilometre paved coastal path that can be used by walkers, runners and cyclists, and deliver a new wetland deck overlooking the Grahams Wetland Reserve.

It will also include the addition of wildlife-friendly solar lighting and coastal planting, creating a more welcoming destination for residents and visitors.

The project is supported by $1 million from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and $150,000 from the DEECA Coastal Public Access and Risk Grant Program.

Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Mia Shaw, said the works would improve access, safety and amenity along Werribee South Beach and Grahams Wetlands Reserve.

“Werribee South Beach is a much-loved destination for our community, and these works will make it even more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” Cr Shaw said.

“This project is about making the most of one of Wyndham’s beautiful natural assets and creating more reasons for people to visit, explore and spend time at Werribee South Beach.”

“These upgrades will make it easier to walk and ride along the Bay Trail, enjoy spectacular views from the new wetland deck and experience more of what makes this coastline so special.”

The Werribee South Beach Master Plan forms part of the implementation of the Wyndham Coastal and Marine Management Plan with further upgrades expected to be delivered across two more stages, subject to future funding.
