Wyndham City welcomes students back to a new school term and reminds drivers to be mindful of traffic conditions in the wet weather and to reduce speed within school zones at peak times.
The return to school means a return to reduced speed limits at school crossings in the mornings and afternoons to 40km an hour.
It’s important to drive to the speed limit and make sure drivers can stop when directed at school crossings, especially in poor weather as there can be difficulties for drivers to suddenly slow down.
Crossing Supervisors should be obeyed at all times to help keep kids safe outside the school gate.
Safety tips around schools include:
• No double parking
• No stopping in a no-standing zone
• No parking on nature strips
• Look out for 40km zones
• Watch out for School Crossing Supervisors
• Students should exit a car on the kerb side
• Students should use supervised school crossings when available to cross the road
• Consider alternative transport methods and Council’s ‘Wyndham Active Travel to School’ program which supports schools to implement active travel programs to increase walking.
