Planning is officially in motion for a game-changing $60 million indoor sports facility in Tarneit.
Wyndham City has awarded the lead design consultant contract for the future Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility, and successful tenderers Brand Architects Pty Ltd will now commence all required investigations, progressing from concept design to preparing construction documentation.
Located on Derrimut Road and on the fringe of the future Tarneit Major Town Centre, the facility is expected to include fourindoor multi-use sport courts, four community program rooms, café, office areas and associated amenities, including parking.
The design will also consider options for future expansion, including additional indoor courts, gymnastics hall and associated services and amenities, with these options subject to future funding.
Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Mia Shaw, said the future Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility would provide a state-of-the-art sports facility for Tarneit residents and the wider Wyndham community.
“Sport is more than play; it’s empowerment,” Cr Shaw said.
“The Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility will provide residents with opportunities to stay fit and healthy – both mentally and physically – and improve social connections within the community.”
Wimba Ward Councillor and Deputy Mayor Josh Gilligan added: “As our population continues to grow, so too does demand for critical sporting infrastructure.”
“Projects like the Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility align with Wyndham City’s goal of establishing an integrated sports facility network across Wyndham that will benefit the physical, mental and social wellness of the whole community.”
“It’s important to note that a project of this size requires funding from a number of external partners. Progressing the design of the Tarneit Indoor Sports Facility will put Council in good stead when advocating for the funding needed to make this vision a reality.”
