Wyndham City’s Youth Services & Arts & Culture teams have partnered with L2R Dance to offer young people between 12 and 25 a free weekly hip-hop dance program, every Wednesday from 4pm to 5pm during Term 4 at Youth Services Hoppers Crossing.
L2R program is open to young people of all abilities, whether they're trying dance for the first time or looking to build on existing skills in a safe and welcoming space.
Young people are encouraged to come along and check out the sessions. Participants will learn the foundations of hip-hop dance, grooves, party dances and choreography while developing teamwork, leadership and performance skills.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw said “The program helps young people learn new skills, express themselves and have some fun.”
"We're proud to support programs that encourage creativity and give young people opportunities to learn and connect with others"
“Young people from all backgrounds are encouraged to come along, get involved and be part of a supportive community that celebrates individuality, culture and dance.” said Cr Shaw
The program is led by teaching artists Urlik Iradukunda and Abul Deng, who are passionate about mentoring and empowering young people through dance.
Hip-hop culture has long been a platform for self-expression, particularly for young people from diverse and marginalised communities. L2R Dance empowers participants to explore creativity while reflecting on the social issues and experiences that shape life in Melbourne's west.
As well as supporting physical activity and mental wellbeing, L2R Next Gen 3029 creates pathways for young people interested in pursuing further opportunities in dance, performance and the arts.
The program runs every Wednesday from 4pm to 5pm during school term at the Hoppers Crossing Youth Resource Centre, 86 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing, and is open to participants of all experience levels.
