IDAHOBIT Day

Wyndham City is proud to support IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia), on Thursday 14 May from 9.15am. The day will include a flag raising ceremony and will hear from Dr Yves Rees award-winning writer, historian and podcaster who writes on transgender history and politics.

Dr Yves is also a frequent contributor to ABC radio, and has appeared on ABC TV’s The Drum and Queerstralia, as well as Channel 10’s The Project.

IDAHOBIT marks the anniversary of May 17, 1990, when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases. Today, the day serves as a recognition of that milestone, and a day to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights and the work still needed to be done to combat discrimination.

This year’s theme for IDAHOBIT is: “At the heart of democracy”. It is a reminder that “the soil of truly democratic societies must be rich in meaningful equity and justice for all, fostering the flourishing of the entire community”.
