Wyndham City supports older residents to live healthy, connected and independent lives. We help older people and their carers find support, have a say in local decisions and stay connected to their community.
We also work with service providers, community organisations and government to improve services and build a welcoming, age-friendly Wyndham.
Finding the right support
Understanding the aged care system and knowing where to start can be challenging. Council’s Community Connector program helps older residents and their carers:
- Understand and navigate the aged care system
- Find services that meet their needs
- Make informed choices about available support.
Council no longer provides aged care services directly, but we continue to help residents connect with the services and support they need.
Having your say
Older residents and carers have valuable knowledge and experience that can help shape Wyndham’s future.
Through community engagement, including initiatives such as Older Voices of Wyndham, we listen to what matters to you and use this feedback to inform Council planning and advocate for improvements.
Our Positive Ageing team works across Council to help ensure the needs and aspirations of older people are considered in local programs, community facilities, transport options and infrastructure planning.
Improving services for older residents
We work with aged care providers, community organisations and all levels of government to identify gaps in support, raise local concerns and improve access to services.
This includes responding to changes in aged care policy and advocating for the needs of older residents, their families and carers.
As part of this work, our Positive Ageing team leads the Wyndham Aged Care Sector Network, which brings together around 80 organisations, including service providers, referral services and government departments. Meeting four times a year, the network helps organisations share knowledge, strengthen partnerships and support culturally safe care.
We also contribute to government inquiries and consultations, using local knowledge and community feedback to advocate for better services and outcomes.
Promoting wellbeing, inclusion and safety
We support initiatives that raise awareness of older people’s rights, wellbeing and safety, including World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
By working with residents and local organisations, we help build a community where older people feel valued, included and supported to age well.
