Wyndham City is proud to announce Abbas Ibrahim as the One Wyndham recipient for January.
Abbas is dedicated to encouraging inclusion and aims to inspire others to believe in their own potential and understand that who they were yesterday doesn’t limit who they can become. He uses his leadership skills to encourage others, showing commitment, kindness and resilience to help to create a culture where young people feel supported and empowered.
Abbas has stepped up to become a leader in his school and the community and helped coordinate events like Spirit Week, Harmony Day, MND fundraisers, Pyjama Day and programs that promote mental health awareness, cultural pride and leadership development, especially for multicultural youth.
Abbas aims to give young people a platform to express themselves and shape their communities. He focuses on amplifying youth voices, celebrating multicultural identity and breaking down barriers that prevent students from feeling connected.
He also volunteers at Wyndham Primary Athletics, supporting multicultural youth programs and contributes to community initiatives that aim to improve young people’s mental health and instill cultural pride through the Hararian Organisation of Victoria Inc.
Recently completing Year 12 Abbas was awarded the Trung Luu Award of Inspiration, the John Lister Community Service Award and Leadership Potential Award highlighting the impact Abbas makes to the Wyndham community.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Josh Gilligan, said “Abbas is a positive role model. He encourages inclusion and supports young people within Wyndham.”
“Wyndham City appreciates the contribution Abbas makes to our community through his volunteering efforts and through giving young people a platform to share their voice.”
One Wyndham recipients are residents aged between 12 to 25 who positively contribute to the Wyndham community and are role models to other young people.
Each month Council selects a Wyndham resident to be awarded the ‘Young Person of the Month’.
Winners are awarded a $300 gift voucher of their choice and other prizes.
