Boaters across Melbourne’s west can look forward to smoother, safer access to the water, with a major upgrade to the Werribee South Boat Ramp now underway.

Funded by the Victorian Government and delivered in partnership with Wyndham City Council, the upgrade will deliver:

  • A seventh boat ramp lane to increase capacity
  • The extension and realignment of existing pontoons 
  • All-abilities access 
  • The reconfiguration of both formal and informal parking areas to create more rigging and tie down spaces, while also improving traffic flow and congestion issues 

To safely complete this upgrade, the Werribee South Boat Ramp will be closed to the public from Monday 3 August 2026 throughout the duration of works. The closest boat ramp options during this time are located at Altona, Avalon Beach and Newport. 

Work is expected to be completed in late 2026.

What is happening? 

Work is now underway on the Werribee South Boat Ramp upgrade, which is being funded by the Victorian Government and delivered in partnership with Council.

When will this happen?

Work commenced on Monday 3 August 2026.

To safely complete this upgrade, the Werribee South Boat Ramp will be closed to the public from Monday 3 August 2026 throughout the duration of works. 

Work is expected to be completed in late 2026. 

Is there any opportunity to maintain access to one or more ramps during the construction period?

Unfortunately, the boat ramps need to remain closed during the redevelopment due to the extent of the car park reconstruction works. The first phase of these works focuses on the areas of the car park closest to the boat ramps, which prevent safe access to the ramps.

Why are these works happening?

The boat ramp upgrade will improve safety and enhance access and functionality for boaters at the Werribee South Boat Ramp, particularly during peak periods.

It will make launching and retrieving boats easier, safer and more efficient, especially during busy periods.

What other boat ramps can I use while Werribee South is closed?

Your closest boat ramp options during this time are at Altona, Avalon Beach and Newport.
