Wyndham City was excited to welcome internationally recognised, British artist INSA to Werribee last week for a new public artwork installation ‘What Does Your Future Hold (2026)’ mural with augmented reality at 143 Watton Street, Werribee.
The new artwork transforms the space into a mural that delves into the playful exploration of technology, possibility and the art of predicting the future, featuring the latest innovation from INSA's 'GIF'ITI' stable, with an integrated Augmented Reality (AR) element accessible to the public through a QR code.
Council's Public Art Plan features themes of Futurism, and this artwork is a great chance for the Wyndham community to engage with a cutting-edge digital artwork.
UK-based artist INSA is known globally for his innovative and technically complex art installations, with a practice spanning large-scale public artworks, digital media, design and commercial projects.
In 2010, he pioneered GIF-ITI, a meticulous process of repeatedly repainting and photographing murals to create animated GIFs, later integrating augmented reality to bring these works back into the physical environment.
The project shows Council leading the way in its exploration of public art and offering the community a fresh way to experience art in the public realm and will undoubtedly draw visitors to experience the work as part of Council's Public Art Walking tour.
