Wyndham City’s draft strategy, Resilient Wyndham 2026 – 2035, aims to create strong foundations for social cohesion amongst our diverse community to prepare and respond to disruptions.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw said the more cohesive and connected our community is, the better we can cope with disruption.

“Wyndham is facing increasingly complex and interconnected challenges that require coordinated and long term approaches to resilience,” she said. 

Resilient Wyndham focuses on three interconnected themes: 

• Social Cohesion – a focus on the quality of relationships, trust and connections within and across communities, reflecting a sense of belonging.
• Climate Resilience – a focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preparing for and adapting to expected climate risks, so as to reduce harm.
• Community Preparedness – creating communities that are informed, connected and better prepared to anticipate, respond and recover from emergencies.

“These themes were identified as the most important opportunities to strengthen resilience across Wyndham, and address gaps not already covered by existing Council strategies,” Cr Shaw said.

“Climate related risks like heatwaves and flooding are becoming more frequent and intense, while ongoing social and economic pressures, including cost of living and financial stress and social isolation, continue to impact community wellbeing.” 

“These stresses rarely happen in isolation, reducing the ability of individuals and communities to manage that’s where a long-term strategy, like Resilient Wyndham 2026 – 2035 can help.”
