The River by Zoë Bastin Dance as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival

Wyndham City is delighted to invite audiences to the brand-new performance ‘The River’ a contemporary dance at Bungies Hole along the Werribee River on Saturday 3 October 2026.

'The River' created by acclaimed choreographer Zoë Bastin, will be performed live on Bunurong Country by two dancers. Tender, physical and deeply atmospheric, 'The River' is a work that causes you to reflect deeply on love, loss and human connection.

Beside the deep-water pools and ghost gums of the Werribee River, ‘The River’ tells a story about how relationships carve pathways through our lives and take us on journeys, just as rivers move through and shape the landscape, the ecology and the community. Creating a performance that is intertwined with nature and the Werribee river.

Bungies Hole, just behind the Werribee Bowls Club, is also home to the Werribee & District Anglers Club, is a historically significant site that was once a popular swimming hole along the Werribee River, until the Werribee Outdoor Pool was opened in 1961.

‘The River’ by Zoe Bastin Dance is commissioned and co-presented with Wyndham City Council as part of the 2026 Melbourne Fringe Pulse Program with generous support from Next Wave.

There are only two showings of this sixty-minute performance on Saturday 3 October 2026, one at sunrise 7.30am and the other at sunset 6pm.

‘The River’ is wheelchair accessible and suitable for all ages.

Tickets are $15 concession and $20 adult and are essential as there is limited capacity.
