The next major Connecting Wyndham project is about to get underway, with construction of the Tarneit Road and Shaws Road intersection upgrade starting next month.

Wyndham City awarded the construction contract for the $10.8 million upgrade this week, paving the way for a duplicated intersection and new traffic lights to improve traffic flow, increase capacity and reduce delays for drivers.

The project will also enhance existing pedestrian and cycling linkages for better accessibility and safety.

Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Mia Shaw, said the added lanes and associated works would deliver major improvements to this busy Werribee intersection.

“Connecting Wyndham is about investing in the roads and transport connections our growing community needs, and the Tarneit Road and Shaws Road intersection upgrade is a key part of that investment,” Cr Shaw said.

“For the people who use Tarneit Road and Shaws Road every day, this upgrade is about making their journey easier, safer and more reliable, with additional lanes, new traffic lights and improved walking and cycling connections that will make a real difference.”

This project follows the recent completion of the $10.5 million Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection upgrade, which delivered a duplicated intersection, new traffic lights, and on-road and off-road cycling lanes. 

Planning is also underway for an upcoming duplication of Leakes Road (Tarneit Road to Derrimut Road), with $15 million allocated in the 2026/27 Budget and construction expected to commence in late 2026.
