Wyndham City has registered its sender ID, so genuine text messages from Council will appear as WyndhamCity. 

This is in keeping with the Australian Communications and Media Authority’s introduction of the SMS Sender ID Register to help protect Australians from text message impersonation scams. 

The register applies to standard SMS and MMS messages that use a business or organisation name as the sender, rather than a phone number.

From 1 July 2026, branded text messages sent from an unregistered sender ID will appear as Unverified. This does not automatically mean the message is a scam, but it does mean the sender name has not been verified through the register.

Residents should treat any text message marked Unverified with extra caution, especially if it claims to be from Wyndham City or asks to click a link, make a payment, provide personal information or share a security code.
