Wyndham City has completed a major streetscape upgrade along Duncans Road, delivering a safer, greener and more vibrant gateway to the heart of Werribee.

The upgrade, spanning Duncans Road between Watton Street and Synnot Street, has delivered brand-new bluestone footpaths, feature seating platforms, landscaping, a raised pedestrian crossing at Watton Street, improved lighting and more. 

This exciting upgrade marks the first major delivery under the Rediscover Werribee City Centre program and is also the first in a series of streetscape upgrades across the City Centre that will include new pavements, street furniture, greenery and accessible parking facilities to improve accessibility and elevate the look and feel of the precinct.

Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Mia Shaw, said the transformation was an important step in revitalising Werribee’s City Centre and supporting its continued growth.

“Duncans Road is one of the key entry points into Werribee’s City Centre, and these upgrades have created a safer, more attractive and pedestrian-friendly space for our community to enjoy,” Cr Shaw said.

“This project is about much more than new footpaths and landscaping – it’s about creating streetscapes that people want to spend time in, supporting local businesses and making Werribee an even more vibrant destination.” 

“The completion of these works is an exciting milestone for the Rediscover Werribee City Centre program and provides a glimpse of what’s to come as we continue investing in the heart of our City.”

Further improvement works started last week, with construction of a new pedestrian crossing in Comben Drive. 

This will be followed by construction of a new pedestrian crossing in Watton Street (between Wedge Street and Werribee Street), and the installation of new flashing lights at the Watton Street pedestrian crossing (between Duncans Road and Cherry Street).

The pedestrian crossings are being funded through the Victorian Government's Safe Local Roads and Streets Program.

Preparations are also underway for stage 2 of the streetscape upgrades, in the central part of Watton Street, with the construction contract expected to be advertised in August. 

Construction is expected to commence in early 2027, while further streetscape upgrades to the remainder of Watton Street and Station Place are also on the cards, subject to future funding.
